This second week of Advent, we are looking at the very real wait for a father in my Bible study, Waiting on the Lord. Each of us was created to be seen, soothed, safe, and held secure in the hands of a very good father. While no one's needs can be fully met by even the best of fathers, every single ache in our souls can be met by our perfect Heavenly Father. He is the father who did not stand far off or leave us alone in messes of our own making, but He drew near through the birth of His Son, Jesus Christ, to take us by the hand and lead us, safely and securely, home.

What needs do you still have even as an adult for your father to fill?

Can you honestly express those needs to your Heavenly Father this Advent season?

And can you create time this week to spend in His presence to allow His outstretched hand to lead you to safety and security in HIs presence?

Time with Him just might be the greatest gift you receive this Christmas season.

NEW BLOG TODAY!

For many, this year may have felt like one long season of winter or loss – a loss of dreams, loss of hopes, or loss of a beloved family member. But even though we have all experienced loss this year in one way or another, what the prophet Isaiah reminds us is that we have all been given a son. And this is a much needed reminder during the Advent season. For as exciting as Christmas is, the holidays can also be a painful reminder of what we are missing – a home, a job, a family, a spouse, a son, a daughter, or a parent.

But in the midst of all of our wintery loss, we are given a reminder that we have not been given just any son, but the Son, Immanuel, the name which means “God with us.” He is the Son who remains forever, who brings us joy on a regular basis, who gives us a family, a spouse, a father, and a name all wrapped up in one.

He is a Son for the barren heart, the grieving heart, and the widowed heart. He is a Son for the hurting heart, the lonely heart, and the longing heart, and He answers the cry of every soul with His Name, Immanuel, God with us.

In my wait for significance, I have found several

In my wait for significance, I have found several things to be true. In the wise words of Tim Keller:
1. I am more desperately sinful than I could ever believe.
2. I am more deeply loved than I could ever hope to imagine.

The cross stands as my daily reminder and testimony to both of those things:
1. I will never be enough or do enough to be the significant person I want to be. BUT there is a place for all of my guilt and shame to go.
2. I am loved with a love that will not let me go. "If God is for me, who can be against me? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?" (Romans 8:31-32)

As we journey towards Christ this Advent season, journey towards the cross. Under its wings, you will find acceptance for your shame, forgiveness for your guilt, and the reminder your significance stands secure forever.

Today is my birthday. I turn 46 today, and for so

Today is my birthday. I turn 46 today, and for so many of those years, I saw myself - my past, present, and future possibilities - through the lens and ache of rejection.

But about seven years ago, God began to do a miraculous work of taking off that lens and giving me an entirely different one through which to see my life. It's a lens of security and steadfast love that comes from knowing I have a Father who will not let me go. I have often felt like Lazarus, wrapped in grave clothes, unable to free myself from the claims of the grave. But when Jesus tells you to "Come forth," you come. His voice has the power to cut every chain and change every lens. Even the lens of rejection.

Looking back over 46 years, if I could tell my younger self one thing, it would be this: you are free. You are free to fail, free to risk, and free to make mistakes because you are so deeply loved. It's a love that will not let you go, so go live your life secure and confident in that love.

The road to healing has been a long, hard one, but God has been so gracious to give me a husband, daughters, sister in laws, neighbors, and friends to help me walk out that healing. But most of all, He's given me Himself. And for that, more than anything, I am deeply thankful. My Father's presence in my life, steadying my life, holding my life together even when He allowed everything else to fall apart, is a gift I will never get over. It's a gift He offers to you too. He offers it to every single one of His children through the gift of relationship with Jesus Christ.

So listen to His voice today calling you out of the grave. His voice often comes through painful circumstances, but He always allows and uses those circumstances to heal the lens on your life and draw you to Himself. Join me in letting your life be proof of His steadfast love. "For Your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in Your faithfulness." Psalm 26:3
