Video: Teens Trusting God in Seasons of Loneliness

Junior high, high school, and the early teenage years are often times when teens experience loneliness. But loneliness doesn’t have to be a burden; it can be a gift when used as a tool to turn to God and get to know Him and who He has made us to be. Join me and my daughter, Lillian, in a conversation to learn how God has used this very important tool in her life.

She may be young but she has a 40 year old soul- wisdom!!! Love her and her mom!

Lillian is an absolute ROCK STAR! We are sending her love from Telluride.

You are so kind, Keely – thank you! Soak in some of that amazing mountain air for us! We miss you here in Houston.

What a gift to see you interact with your daughter and to hear her share her wisdom with such grace and poise.

I actually think some of the most thoughtful people are lonely as they see and feel things deeper, and they notice the lack of connection beyond the surface level.

And those who know their identity in Christ, though that gives them a firm foundation for sure, and it is indeed critical, it also can sometimes mean they feel loneliness a bit deeper. I know that may sound counterintuitive, but I say that because I think when we have tasted the depths of Christ and are rooted in Him, when we bump into people in this world and notice they are not comfortable in their own skin, it strikes us as sad and sometimes we feel unsuccessful in bridging that gap.

And though sad doesn’t have to equate to loneliness as your interview highlighted so brilliantly, for many of us, those two feelings often overlap, and unless we call them out, they may pull us down.

So true, Melinda. I don’t know if you have read Chip Dodd’s book Voice of the Heart but I think you would resonate so deeply with it. He has helped give me a language of the heart for feelings like sadness, loneliness, hurt, anger, fear, shame, etc, and know how to process them with integrity and hope before the face of God. Let me know if you would like to read it, and I can send it to you.
