Known: A Mother’s Journey Through Psalm 139
The desire to be known, fully and authentically, is embedded deeply within every human heart. Perhaps at no other season in a woman’s life is the desire to be known, recognized, and loved as strong as when she is in the midst of carrying a baby, nurturing an infant, and caring for small children. But this is usually when women feel the most unknown. Undesirable. Unrecognized. Unheard. And unappreciated.
At no other time in life do mommies need more of the rest-giving, heart-cleansing, and mind-changing Word of God than during the newborn season. But it is a season when finding a few spare moments to soak in God’s Word seems, at times, impossible to attain. Through 31 days of devotionals followed by a short space to process and pray, Known takes readers on a journey through examining the life-changing truths of Psalm 139 verse by verse and line by line, helping women connect with the Lord at a time in life when they need it most. Known is a devotional study I wrote on Psalm 139 for mothers of newborn children. While pregnancy and that first year of life with each of my three children was beautiful, glorious, and a true gift from God, there were many days when it was just gloriously hard. Painful. Difficult. Lonely. Isolating. As I came to the end of myself amidst mounds of diapers and sleepless nights, I found much healing and rest in the words of David, the Psalmist, in Psalm 139. My prayer is that if you are a mother of a newborn or young children and have come to the end of yourself as well, you will find hope and healing as I did through the truths enveloped in this Psalm. Download the study on the link below, print it for yourself, and share it with others. May you find the true peace and rest that comes from being Known by the Audience of One.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way.”
